Vision of CLRSAA

The CLRSAA was established in 2003 to bring together generations of CLR staff members in the spirit of scouting and friendship. We are focused on supporting camp with our time and resources. In addition, we will continue the Winter Reunion, Staff Alumni day and Last Friday Gathering to reflect on long lasting friendship and developing new ones. Through these methods, we support the Aims and Methods of scouting for all scouters at CLR.

In Friendship Forever,

2017 CLRSAA Board

To all Alumni:

I attended the Friday Campfire for the first time in many years in the summer of 2016 after spending an entire week as a non-staff member for the first time since 1996. It was that week which convinced me to be involved in the Alumni Association again. Though I did not realize at the time it would be as the Board President, I have truly enjoyed the experience.

My first goal was to have a unified board full of experience, passion, and love for CLR and scouting. We have alumni representing every decade going all the way back to the 1970s. We are all friends and keep the priority of ‘Camp First’ in all decision making. This mentality has bonded us together as strong unit which looks out for the interests for all of you.

My second goal was to strengthen the relationship between the Alumni Association and the staff. Drew and many others started it with the Worker Bees Patrol and we have continued it by having many alumni commit their resources to improve camp. Everyone has a resource to give whether it is time, knowledge, or financial contribution. All are equally important and I ask all of you to find a resource to use to continue to make CLR the greatest camp on earth.

As we look forward to 2018, we are dedicated in providing time and effort to CLR and we are always looking to get better. We still have many areas to improve including communication, social media, and utilizing the Harmer Fund. I look forward to seeing alumni at our many events. Hopefully each one of you will have an opportunity to attend one

A word with Roy

Well we have finished another great summer camp season. Now on to the work. Camp is looking good. The Order of the Arrow ordeal weekend happened here this fall allowing us to begin a perimeter trail, I got a lot of positive feedback because the O.A. is always looking for a more permanent project in camp. Don’t worry there is still a lot of trail to build. The Wells camp rehousing project is coming along with few obstacles to overcome. There currently are 6 cabins in place, one here on site, and monies committed for 6 more. As soon as the permitting issue is solved we will be moving forward with the electric. Thing hopefully coming in the next year A generator for the dining hall, new roof on the shelter house, a permanent shelter at B.S.I, a Geocaching course, and possibly a disc golf course. I hope you are as excited as I am about the things getting done. Thank you all for your support.

A Day With Drew -

Well, my friends, we are proud to close out 2017 knowing that we had yet another successful summer at CLR. By the numbers, we welcomed 1570 youth and adults, taught 2691 merit badges (831 partials), with 306 new campers in our Foothills program, ran a total of 645 miles with the 5k, issued new claws to 142 frontiersmen, ate over 33,000 meals, and had ZERO ambulances come into camp this summer. All in all, it is safe to say we proudly continued the legacy of friendship and excellence for another summer. Thanks to all that made our 2017 summer camp season a success! With our drastic staff shortage this summer, we could not have done it without alumni and volunteers stepping up to help with operations and program. There have been several meetings with council executives, who are making plans to drastically expand our pool of staff applicants through more marketing in local troops, college groups, and other organizations.

Even though camp is not buzzing with the same hustle and bustle of summer, there is still a ton of help needed for the off season. Please consider getting involved in the many projects going on through either volunteering your time or your financial support. We have a lot of great plans in the works for exciting new improvements and additions to camp, both physically and with our summer camp program. We would love to have you be a part continuing our legacy for many years to come.

Proud to be your 2017 Camp Director,

Drew Thiele

Jacobs Ladder

Hello, Alumni!

These past few weeks post-camp have given me a chance to reflect on this past summer. The staff absolutely rocked it this summer with their dedication to being the best camp staffers they could be. I was extremely privileged to watch all the Magic come to head in the most intense way possible every single Friday night. The scouts had a great time, every week, and it showed - the 2017 CLR Staph’s hard work paid off and will continue to pay off. The relationships the staff made this summer, as all of you know, will continue on.

For those of you who got the opportunity to come out to camp and visit this summer, you saw the changes around camp both physically and program-wise. The Worker Bees Patrol has been working diligently over the last few years to vastly improve how camp runs and the resources available. There have been updates on the PA system, a new dock at Waterfront, new picnic tables throughout camp, and many more projects.

Those of you who did not make it out this summer, COME ON OUT! I encourage every alumni to come down to CLR and see how we do things nowadays, teach a skill to a scout, see the camp and see the Magic. The Alumni Association hosts an Alumni Day which is usually on Fridays of Staff Week and they also host the Last Friday Gathering on the final Friday of the summer camp season. I’d love to meet you all, and i’d love for the staff to meet you, as well.

Thank you to the CLRSAA for all they do for camp, and we look forward to seeing more of you around.

Jacob Ryan

2017 Program Director
